Are you looking for gifts for kids who love to write? Maybe you’d like to encourage a child to write. One gift I tend to buy my daughter every year is a journal, but there are plenty of other products out there that are perfect for writers.

In this post I’ve compiled links to writing tools, books, games, and kits that I would buy for any kids on my list who love to write.

Writing Tools for Kids Who Love to Write

You may think writing tools are too ordinary to make a fun, inspiring gift. But when you look for pencils, pens, and paper with different colors, shapes, and designs, who can resist using them? Kids will love putting the standard yellow pencils and white lined notebook paper aside to write with these exciting tools.

Pencils

My favorite kind of pencil is a #2 Ticonderoga, but for kids who love to write, they may like something with a bit more style and personality. Here are some pencils that can make writing multi-sensorial. And possibly get young writers wanting a snack!

Pencil Cases

Kids will appreciate a pencil case to store all of their special writing pencils and markers. Keeping tools organized in a handy pouch means that they can take their writing tools with them on any adventure.

Stationary

Writing on white paper is great because you’re giving kids a blank canvas to share their ideas, but sometimes it may not be very inspiring. Why not jazz up kid’s writing paper with some attractive designs, patterns, and colors? Kids who have pen pals will especially love a cute stationary set.

Journal or Diary

Kids who love to write need a journal or diary to record their thoughts. Some kids love to write daily entries to process their feelings, or simply to have a record of events so they can treasure those memories for years to come. Lock and key diaries are very popular choices that won’t disappoint.

Writing Books for Kids Who Love to Write

Giving the gift of a writing book can give kids new writing ideas and support them in their use of written language. Every writer hits a writing block from time to time. And what writer doesn’t need a good dictionary?

Writing Games for Kids Who Love to Write

Kids love to play games and parents often love to play along with them. Get the whole family involved in storytelling with a writing game.

Book Making Kits for Kids Who Love to Write

My daughter was introduced to Lulu through a junior book making kit, like the one below, that she got for Christmas one year. Getting her story made into a hardcover published book inspired her to want to do more. Later, she published a couple of other stories on Lulu.com so her family and friends could purchase additional copies.

Conclusion

Buying gifts for kids who love to write is a wonderful way to encourage them to keep on expressing themselves. You can support young writers by giving them tools that make the manual task of writing fun, giving them books that inspire new ideas and support proper word usage, giving them games to help them grow in their ability to tell stories, and giving them writing kits to make them feel like real published authors.
